Tooth-Colored Fillings

A composite filling repairs a tooth affected by decay, cracks, or fractures using a tooth-colored resin — no silver, no dark spots.

Why we recommend composite

Composite fillings can be closely matched to the color of your existing teeth, making them a great cosmetic option for front teeth and any visible area of your smile — without sacrificing durability.

The process

Most fillings are completed in a single visit. We numb the area, remove the decayed portion of the tooth, and thoroughly clean and prepare the space. The composite material is then precisely placed, shaped, and polished to restore your tooth's natural shape and function. Some patients notice mild temperature sensitivity for a short time afterward.

Common uses

  • Repairing chipped or cracked teeth
  • Treating cavities
  • Restoring worn teeth
  • Closing small gaps between teeth

While composite fillings aren't permanent, they're highly durable, especially with good oral hygiene and regular checkups.

Frequently asked questions

For most cavities, composite fillings are a durable, long-lasting option, and they have the advantage of blending naturally with your tooth.
Many plans cover composite fillings at the same rate as traditional fillings — our team can help verify your specific benefits.
With good oral hygiene, composite fillings commonly last many years. Longevity depends on the size and location of the filling and habits like grinding — we check your fillings at every exam.
The area is fully numbed before we begin, so you should not feel pain during the procedure. Mild sensitivity to hot or cold for a few days afterward is normal and fades on its own.
A tooth-colored filling runs $190–$450* at our office fees, depending on the size and number of surfaces. With insurance, fillings are among the best-covered treatments in dentistry: many of the plans we work with cover them at 90–100%, so many insured patients pay $0–$30 out of pocket. We verify your benefits free and give you an exact price before we start.
