Digital X-Rays
Digital X-rays are the modern standard in dental imaging — replacing traditional film with an electronic sensor that captures images instantly on a computer screen.
Why we use digital imaging
Digital X-rays let us view and enlarge images immediately, making it easier to catch problems early. Just as important, they reduce radiation exposure by 80–90% compared to traditional film X-rays, and eliminate the chemical film-developing process altogether.
What X-rays can reveal
- Abscesses or cysts
- Bone loss
- Cancerous and non-cancerous tumors
- Decay between teeth, not visible during a visual exam
- Developmental abnormalities
- Problems below the gum line or inside a tooth
Safety & frequency
We're all exposed to natural background radiation every day, and digital X-rays add very little to that. We only take the X-rays we need and use protective shielding to minimize exposure further. New patients typically receive a full set of X-rays (valid for 3–5 years), with routine bite-wing X-rays once or twice a year to catch new issues early.
